Initial Wedding Plans

Thom and I made use of the four hour drive home from Petoskey to start hashing out some initial wedding plans.

  • We both wanted a fall wedding so we are hoping for an October 09 wedding (depending on hall and church availability)

  • We decided to pick our favorite colors for the wedding colors. One of his favorite color is ZR1 Corvette blue (a bright royal blue), and my all time favorite color is lime green, Thom's top favorite color is black so that will be one of the neutral colors too

  • We wanted to have the service and reception near our homes in Farmington Hills, MI.

We are in the process of searching for a hall and making plans with the church. Be sure to check back to our blog for wedding updates.

The Proposal

Thom and I have taken a trip "Up-North" to Traverse City and Petoskey for the past three years to exchange Christmas gifts with one another. This year we stayed in Downtown Petoskey at the historic Perry Hotel.

After a day of walking around and shopping in Charlevoix and Petoskey we stopped at the hotel before dinner. Thom picked the City Park Grill for our dinner spot. We had a great dinner and decide to walk to a pub near by for some drinks. It just so happens that in order to get to this pub we had to walk through the park. I was not expecting what was about to happen, but I sure played right into it...
There is a beautiful gazebo in the park, and I wanted to take our picture in it. But once we got close to it, we discovered that the path leading up to the gazebo was not shoveled. I was content simply taking a picture from a distance, but Thom said, "No, if we are going to do it, we are going to do it." So we climbed through the snow, and I walked up the steps to the gazebo first. As Thom was walking up the steps to stand in front of me he said, "I have one more gift for you." and I was still clueless until I head his voice shake when he said, "But you have to answer a question first..." then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

Our History Together

Thom and I where neighbors in college at Kettering in 2002...that's right he eventually fell in love with the girl next door. He lived on the corner in the green house his senior year and I lived in the much cooler peach house my sophomore year.

Thom and I have been friends ever since. Through the years we have gone to bars and pubs to listen to live music (the pic is from 2004 when we where at Rube's Bar in Flint for the GhettoBillies), we would always watch our show 24 together, and of course we went to plenty of motorcycle races.

As fate would have it, motorcycles and racing (of all things) played a big part in our relationship. Thom says he knew we would be together after I took him for a ride on his pit bike through the condo complex where he was living at the time. The even more romantic part is that I ended up running the bike up a hill. While Thom was quick enough to jump off at the top of the hill, I ended up rolling down the hill with the bike... ah true love!

A few weeks after the monumental bike ride, while at a Detroit Tigers baseball game with my friend (and now maid of honor) Jacqui, I decided that I might have feelings for Thom. The following day I meet up with Thom at Mid-Ohio Race Track where he was busy working as a Crew Chief. After all of the racing and fun was done, we ended up having our first kiss there at the race track. Not the most romantic setting, but he made up for that when he proposed!!!
